RNs wanted to help with hurricane relief
9/22/2004
Hurricanes Ivan, Charley, and Frances create critical need for nurses! Nurses are desperately needed to assist with ongoing disaster relief operations, and your help is urgently needed to identify and recruit nurses for potential deployment. If you or members of your nursing network (staff, state nursing committee members, key volunteers, etc.) are aware of any nurses or groups of nurses who have had Red Cross disaster health or disaster mental health training (or have training scheduled in the immediate future), please let them know their help may be needed and ask that they contact their local chapter if they are able to provide assistance now or in the near future.
Please note the following:
* These nurses do not have to be current DSHR members, but will be asked to join prior to deployment
* They should be in good health and be willing to serve on a disaster assignment for a minimum of 10 days to 2 weeks
* Must have current, active license in US/US Territory
* Their likely assignment will be in an area affected by a recent hurricane, which can mean lack of power, intense heat, and other hardship conditions
* Additional information will be provided prior to deployment
* Deployment is not guaranteed; actual assignment/deployment will depend upon a variety of factors
* Nurses who are already DSHR members should also contact their chapters if they are available for assignment
